C-Cube International is pleased to announce the launch of EISafe (EIS Insights for Safety), a collaborative project focused on improving the assessment of protective coatings in industrial environments using Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS).
The project is supported by the Dutch RVO through the Subsidieregeling Versterking Omgevingsveiligheid industriële activiteiten (SVO). This funding program supports innovations that enhance environmental safety within the industrial sector.
Why EISafe?
Protective coatings serve as the first line of defense against corrosion in industrial assets. Their condition plays a critical role in maintaining asset integrity, ensuring operational safety, and guiding maintenance planning. Currently, inspections often rely on visual assessments. While useful, these methods can be subjective and are limited in their ability to detect early-stage degradation before visible damage occurs.
EISafe aims to address this gap by evaluating whether EIS, combined with data analysis and C-Cube’s Coating Quality Measurement (CQM) methodology, can provide earlier and more objective insights into coating condition under real operating conditions.
The project will assess whether this approach can support safer maintenance decisions and contribute to improved environmental safety across the industry.
Project approach
Over the next two years, EISafe will evaluate the effectiveness of EIS through:
- Laboratory testing across a range of coating systems
- Field pilots at BRZO (major-hazard) industrial sites
- Comparison with existing inspection methods
- Independent expert validation of the measurement results
The project will conclude with a feasibility assessment and a recommendation on whether the method is suitable for broader adoption within the industrial sector.
C-Cube's role
As project coordinator, C-Cube International leads the EISafe consortium and contributes its expertise in EIS and CQM.
The project builds on C-Cube’s experience in developing practical, quantitative approaches to coating assessment. Through EISafe, these methods will be further validated in collaboration with industrial partners and research institutions to confirm their value in real-world applications.
